Fantastique Amsterdam

by Spanish director Jaume Balaguero is to open the 19th edition of Amsterdam’s Fantastique Film Festival - 10-16 April 2003. The programme includes sixty fantasy, horror and sci-fi films from 15 countries.
This year’s guest of honour is American filmmaker Lloyd Kaufman, the founder of Trome Entertainment, and world-famous for his horror and "bad-taste" fantasy films. He will receive a lifetime achievement award for a career that includes genre classics like The Toxic Avenger, Troméo & Juliet and Terror Firmer. Past winners of this award are Paul Verhoeven, Wes Craven and Dario Argento.
The festival's closing film is Dreamcatcher, based on Stephen King’s best-seller, and directed by Lawrence Kasdan. This particular screening will be preceeded by a short film entitled Dernier Vol de L’Osiris (The Final Flight of the Osiris), one of nine short films that make up the ensemble, Animatrix - the prelude to Matrix Reloaded.
