Written by Vincent Mariette, the screenplay focuses on two brothers: Léon and Bruno. The death of Arthur, the father they hated, was necessary to reunite them and bring them back to Valloires, the town where they grew up and where the cremation will take place. Though once they get there, there is no ceremony, but instead a girl, Chloé, who introduces herself as their half-sister. She ends up confessing that Arthur is not dead but has disappeared and that she made everything up to get them to come help her in her quest to find him.

 Produced by Amaury Ovise for Kazak Productions, Sadness Club benefits from a coproduction with Rhône-Alpes Cinéma, pre-purchases from Canal+ and Ciné+, an advance on receipts from the CNC and the backing of Sofica Cofimage and Edca. Filming will continue until August 31st in the vicinity of Chambéry and Grenoble. French distribution will be handled by Haut et Court and international sales by Bac Films.
