19th Sarajevo IFF announces titles in competition

- As many as three of the nine films vying for the Heart of Sarajevo trophy come from Romania

It's the Romanian edition of the Sarajevo International Film Festival (August 16-24) as three of the nine titles in the running for the Heart of Sarajevo trophy come from Romania. Corneliu Porumboiu is the most experienced director vying for an award with his third feature When Evening Falls on Bucharest or Metabolism [+see also:

(also in the Locarno competition). With only two other second features in competition, it's also an edition of debutants.

, one of the rare Romanian films that explore the supernatural, while Doru Nitescu brings to Sarajevo his first feature Carmen [+see also:

, a family drama about a mother who fights for her daughter's life.

Greek director Dimitris Bavellas brings his Runaway Day, while Austria is represented by Katharina Muckstein's Talea. Faruk Loncarevic competes with his Bosnia and Herzegovina-Germany-Slovenia co-production With Mom, while Nana Ekvtimishvili and Simon Groß represent Georgia with their In Bloom [+see also:

The 2013 jury is lead by Bosnian director Danis Tanovic, whose An Episode in the Life of an Iron Picker [+see also:

will open festival on August 16.

According to the Sarajevo team, 750 films from the region have been seen in order to select the 50 fiction features, documentaries and short films competing for the awards of the 19th edition.
