German filmmaker Elfi Mikesch shoots the family drama Fieber

With her new movie, Fieber, the German acclaimed writer/director, director of photography and producer Elfi Mikesch (Seduction: The Cruel Woman) starts a time travel that goes back to the colonial era in the 20's. Inspired by old photos that her father brought back from North Africa, Syria and Lebanon, she embarks on a story that combines different levels such as dream, reality, fantasy as well as old memories.

Fieber starts in Austria in the 50's where a family father is suffering from marsh fever. He asks his 11-year-old daughter to bring him a glass of water and join him in bed. Sixty years later when the daughter has become a successful photographer she finds out that she has a half sister. She decides to travel to Serbia and search for her. On the train, when she looks at the pictures and letters that her father sent home from the French Foreign Legion, memories from her childhood come back to her.

Elfi Mikesch underlines that “although the events of the war have taken place a long time ago, the repercussions remain deeply emotional. These fears become bequeathed from generation to generation. My intention is to bare these pictures and to make the emotional effects visible.”Her approach is to use the photos in Fieber to create a parallel universe. She developed the visual concept together with the director of photography Jerzy Palacz (Pianomania [+see also:
