Mia Hansen-Love steps into Eden

After going through Les Films Pelléas, then SBS Productions, the project Eden by talented director Mia Hansen-Love (photo) was taken over by Charles Gillibert for CG Cinema (which will also handle international sales). The official beginning of filming is scheduled for November but the filmmaker is already at work in New York since yesterday where she is shooting a few scenes.

) and Iranian actress Golshifteh Farahani (Singué Sabour - Pierre de Patience, My Sweet Pepperland), and American actors Brady Corbet and Greta Gerwig (Frances Ha).

Written by Mia Hansen-Love with a brother Sven (a well-know DJ of the French Touch in the 90’s), Eden’s screenplay tells the story of Paul who discovers rave parties when he is 17, runs away from home and gets his heart broken for the first time. Soon he is drawn into a dance music which is only in its infancy: Garage, a type of House music whose voices are inhabited by the spirituality of gospel. This attraction will become the great passion of his life... A few years have gone by, Paul makes his first steps into the Parisian nightlife, he creates with his best friend, Stan, the duo Cheers, and then their own label. They find their audience rapidly. For Paul and his band, this is the beginning of a dazzling but also risky ascension into the world electronic music...

According to the filmmaker’s intentions, Eden will attempt to make the audience relive the euphoria of the 90’s: the charm and dangers of an existence devoted to music and partying, the disintegration of an inherently ephemeral world. But the film also follows the emotional journey of a young man who tragically accumulates love stories, not succeeding in building a life with the woman he loves. Finally, through Paul, his surroundings and his passion for the music of his time, the film is also the portrait of a generation, that of the years 2000.

Produced by CG Cinéma (which began its activity with Sils Maria, currently in production – read the article), Eden benefits amongst others from a France 2 Cinéma coproduction and a pre-purchase by Canal+. The French distribution will be handled by Ad Vitam.
