- McDowell's jury rewards Vylet by Czech Republic's Alice Nellis, Hungarian György Palfi's Hukkle & celebrates Brit Film

Some Secrets (Vylet), the second feature film by Czech director Alice Nellis, won yet another important international award when it took home the Golden Arc Grand Prix at the 18th edition of the Paris Film Festival . Nellis also won the best young director award at the last edition of San Sebastian and best screenplay in Thessaloniki in Greece. The Paris jury, presided over by British actor Malcolm McDowell, also bestowed a Special Mention on Hungary’s György Palfi for Hukkle.
Another European title, Comme si de rien n’était by Frenchman Pierre Olivier, took home the Audience Award and the jury award was presented to Madame Brouette by Senegal’s Moussa Sene Absam while his star, Aboubacar Sadikh Bâ, won the best actor nod. The press award was a tie between Le Fleuve by Mama Keita from New Guinea and Australian Rolf De Heer’s The Tracker. America’s Maggie Gyllenhaal won the best actress award.
Addressing the audience, festival president Gérard Gros reminded film distributors of their responsibilities to first films that have won awards either from expert juries or audiences.
This year’s edition featured a tribute to British cinema with a selection of 18 films, ranging from Ealing classic comedies to more recent films by directors like Danny Boyle, Oliver Parker, Patrick Harkins and Michael Radford.
