There is more to Danish television than The Killing, Borgen and The Bridge: Danish international sales boutique LevelK has signed a remake deal with Sony Pictures for Park Road (photo), a 2009 drama-comedy TV series aired over two seasons by Danish commercial broadcaster TV2/Danmark.
The American version will be staged by The Sopranos producers Mitchell Burgess, Robin Green and eOne Productions for US network NBC, “confirming the international potential of Danish TV drama,” per Danish producer Rasmus Thorsen.
Thorsen produced the Danish original with Mie Andreasen and Tomas Hostrup-Larsen, for Cosmo Film; written by Mette Heeno, it starred Søs Egelind, Anette Støvelbæk and Henrik Prip, who were also in the 2012 theatrical spin-off, Park Road: Till Death Do Us Part [+see also:
The series follows three siblings Katrine, Sune and Mathilde, the residents of the safe and idyllic suburban community of Park Road: each of them carries a fatal secret, which drives them into absurd and comic situations.
One is that they accidentally have shot an Albanian mafia boss and buried the body in the garden - but what would you do if you also found out your best friend is having an affair with your father, or your husband is not the accountant he claims to be.
The 22-part TV show took a weekly 810,000 viewers during the second season. Cosmo Film also produced the television series Jesus and Josefine (2003), Anna Pihl (2009-), for TV2/Danmark, and Martin Schmidt’s 2007 feature, The Gold of Valhalla.
