Norwegian Film Institute signs top producer for management job

“Norwegian cinema has grown immensely in the last 10 years, both quality-wise and commercially – it is a great platform to build on. But there are challenges in the horizon: funding of films for theatres is threatened from several sides, and while supporting the talent which flourished during the period, we must also find space for development and innovation,” said Norwegian producer Sveinung Golimo (photo)

Since 2001 working for Norwegian veteran director John M Jacobsen’sOslo-based production outfit, Filmkameratene, the 38-year old producer was yesterday (October 2) named production and development chief at the Norwegian Film Institute, to succeed Ivar Køhn, newly-appointed head of drama at Norwegian pubcaster NRK. “Surely, I will miss the creative work of making films,” added Golimo, who has signed a six-year contract with the institute. “But these are turbulent times, both in the general market situation and in the current political climate in Norway, so I hope – as a producer and former head of the Producers’ Association – that I can contribute to adapt the state subsidising system to the industry’s needs.” – His productions include Norwegian directors Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg's Max Manus: Man of War [+see also:
