Counting down towards its curtain call, the 54th edition of the Thessaloniki International Film Festival (Nov 1-10) announced its opening film on Thursday: America director Jim Jarmusch will be visiting the country’s largest international fest to present Only Lovers Left Alive [+see also:

. The Cannes-screened vampire love story (review) was partly financed by Greek production house Faliro House Productions and will be having its national premiere at the fest.

Meanwhile, the fest has been slowly unveiling its various sections’ line-ups, leading up to its final reveal later this month. The Open Horizons section, where fest director Dimitri Eipides personally handpicks challenging works, will this year be presenting the latest by Xavier Dolan (Tom at the Farm [+see also:

The Agora, the fest’s market, will be welcoming film professionals from around the globe, presenting networking opportunities and fostering upcoming projects via actions like the MEDIA-backed Crossroads forum (Nov 5-9). Headed by Marie-Pierre Macia (MPM Films) this year’s Crossroads will be featuring 16 film projects, which will be judged by former Sundance fest exec Alesia Weston, Warp Films’ Peter Carlton, and Beben Films’ Amanda Livanou.
