by

Seventeen German films and international co-productions will be screened at the 5th Festival Internacional de Cine Independiente in Buenos Aires from 16 –26 April. The event is considered unique in South America since it focuses on young filmmakers and attracts a youthful audience.

The Panorama section showcases films already seen at other international events and includes The Longing by Iain Dilthey and School Trip by Henner Winckler, the latter is also one of five European films that will tour five Argentine cities, an event organised by European Film Promotion.
The Personas y Personajes (People and Personalities) sidebar section will screen the Swiss-German co-production, Thomas Pynchon – A Journey Into The Mind of P. by Fosco and Donatello Dubini while Belford en Buenos Aires includes Das Stahltier by Willy Zielke. Directores en Foco features retrospectives dedicated to Fred Kelemen including his 1994 Fate, 1997/98 Frost, 1991-93 Kalyi – Zeit Der Finsternis and 1998/99 Abendland as well as a nine-film retrospective dedicated to Harum Farocki.
