05/12/2013 - Tallinn’s event sets an all time attendance high with over 77,500 spectators over the two weeks during which it took place

The 17th edition of the Black Nights Film Festival finished last Sunday with great news: attendance to the event peaked at an all time high of just over 77,500 spectators, an increase of more than 10% compared to the last edition. The festival took place from November 15 to December 1.

“A third generation of festival-goers has found their way to our cinemas, and we are thankful for their trust in the festival’s programming and production standards,” comments festival director Tiina Lokk. “The fact that we effectively managed the full transition to digital projection standards for this edition has been certainly a contributing factor as well,” she continues. This year’s edition has also attracted a record number of premieres (1 world premiere, 1 European premiere and 10 international premieres), while it established itself as an important meeting point in the winter season for film professionals.

The Black Nights has received features from all around the world, including films in the Venda and Roma languages for the first time. The festival’s main prize EurAsia Grand Prix went to Paolo Sorrentino’s La grande bellezza [+see also:
