The Perspektive Deutsches Kino is the section of the Berlin International Film Festival where newcomers from Germany can be discovered. This year’s programme is dominated by stories that are taking place abroad in exotic places such as Kyrgyzstan, Cuba, Israel or in the middle of the woods at a scéance. “We are always delighted when first steps in the film world - which were taken in conjunction with projects and initiatives of the Berlinale - bear fruit. Though even better is when they result in exciting films that have their premieres in our programme,” says Linda Söffker, Head of Perspektive Deutsches Kino.

The programme line-up kicks off with the drama Hüter meines Bruders (My Brother‘s Keeper) by Maximilian Leo who participated in the Berlinale Talent Campus in 2011. His feature film debut is about two brothers who are very different but symbiotically connected. The relationship of two brothers is also the central theme in El carro azul, a 20-minute fictional film by Valerie Heine that takes place in Cuba. But there are also people who never feel at home, not even in their homeland as the protagonist in the fictional feature Anderswo (Anywhere Else) by Ester Amrami comes to realize when she travels to Israel.
