Written by the director, the screenplay begins with the return to Europe for the first time of Jérôme Varenne, after several years spent in Shanghai for business. He introduces his family to his new Chinese partner. But a long forgotten secret resurfaces on this occasion…

Produced by Marc Missonnier and Olivier Delbosc for Fidélité Films, the cast of Belles familles could (subject to all reserves) include Mathieu Amalric, Léa Seydoux, Gilles Lellouche, Karine Viard and André Dussollier. TF1 Films Production committed to the co-production and pre-purchased the film for a total of 1.6 M€. The French distribution could be handled by Mars. 54 of the 60 days of filming will take place in the Ile-de-France region, which will back the film with 532,000 euros.

The Ile-de-France region will also back the new projects by two female directors who are regulars at big festivals: Eden by Mia Hansen-Løve (read the article - production CG Cinéma – 418,000 euros) and La tête haute by Emmanuelle Bercot (news - Les Films du Kiosque – 304,000 euros).
