, starring French actress Juliette Binoche as a top war photographer, is still part of the cinema repertoire in Norway, where it has exceeded 100,000 admissions for Euforia – and now it is ready for worldwide travel.

Yesterday (19 February), German international sales agency Global Screen announced a raft of deals for the Finn Gjerdrum and Stein B. Kvae production for Paradox, including the US (Film Movement) and Canada (Pacific Northwest Pictures). “We are confident that this gripping film will resonate with North American audiences,” said Film Movement president Adley Gartenstein.

Launched at the Montreal World Film Festival, and winning the Special Grand Prix of the Jury and the Ecumenical Award, the film was also licensed to Japan (Kadokawa Corporation), Australia (Regency Film Distribution), Denmark, Finland (Smile), Turkey (Yeni Bir Film), the former Yugoslavia (Discovery), Bulgaria (Multivision) and Latin America (HBO).

“Thanks for the good news - it is always a pleasant feeling to see that people appreciate your work,” affirmed Binoche. “In Norway, few films are seen by more than 100,000 people in the theatres, and rarely this kind of movie,” added Poppe.

Scripted with Harald Rosenløw Eeg, A Thousand Times Good Night is inspired by Poppe’s own experiences as a war photographer in the 1980s. In the film, Rebecca (Binoche) is seriously wounded on an assignment in Kabul, and when she returns home she is met by an ultimatum – her job or her family.

Co-starring Danish actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Norwegian actor Mads Ousdal, Irish actors Maria Doyle Kennedy and Larry Mullen Jr (also U2's drummer), the film was mainly shot in Dublin and Morocco, and was co-produced by Ireland’s Newgrange Pictures and Zentropa International Sweden.
