Including Wenders’ own portrayal of the Berlin Philharmonic, Danish director Michael Madsen’s study of the Halden State Prison and Norwegian director Margreth Olin’s presentation of the Oslo Opera House (both in Norway), Cathedrals of Culture is one of the 80 films screening at 10 venues, including the Cinematheque, the Grand Theatre, and the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art.

"As human beings we are surrounded by architecture, but we rarely stop and think about it in depth. A festival is an ideal opportunity to focus on the way architecture affects us and influences our way of being in the world,” said the festival’s founder and executive director Josephine Michau, also head of the Doxbio distribution platform servicing 60 theatres.

German director Heinz Emigholz will himself introduce the world premiere of his Decampment of Modernism in the programme, which will focus on the intersection between architecture and film, especially films with extraordinary spatial or scenographic values. Screenings will be followed by discussions, moderated by film directors and expert architects.

“Architecture is indeed a broad field,” added Michau, who – with programme director, architect Peter Møller Rasmussen – has accordingly prepared a line-up exploring six topics in film series, including Cinematic Space and Architectural Space; Landscape and Film; Personal Space; Architectural Processes; Architecture and Ritual; and Modernism.

For a complete schedule of screenings, debates, symposia, lectures, city walks, parties, tastings etc.: The Copenhagen Architecture Festival x FILM will have an information desk at the Cinematheque (Copenhagen’s Film House) from 25-30 March.
