27/03/2014 - Swedish pubcaster SVT has started production of a new ten-part drama series “with similar ingredients to House of Cards, although more violent”

One day, Elin Hammar has an unexpected visitor at the restaurant where she works: Sweden’s Minister of Justice, who wants to give her back her job as his chief of staff at Sweden’s Ministry of Justice, which she left under unfortunate circumstances. 

When she accepts, she has no idea that she will shortly be at the centre of a political conspiracy revolving around her predecessor’s mysterious disappearance in a game motivated by greed and lust for power in Blue Eyes, a political thriller currently shooting in Gothenburg for a ten-part drama series by Swedish pubcaster SVT.

“With similar ingredients to House of Cards, although more violent,” according to SVT head of drama Christian Wikander, the Swedish approach to an equivalent of the successful US series is written by, among others, Alex Haridi, and will be directed by Henrik Georgsson (The Bridge) and Fredrik Edfeldt.

A violent attack is perpetrated by Sweden’s first right-wing terror cell, which wants to set the agenda for the election, in the series produced by Strix Drama, with SVT and Swedish regional film centre Film i Väst. It is to be aired in late autumn, after Sweden’s actual general elections.

Louise Peterhoff will play Hammar as she heads up the search, with Sven Nordin as the Minister of Justice and a cast that also includes Adam Lundgren, Anna Bjelkerud, Marie Richardson, Erik Johansson, Kjell Wilhelmsen, Linus Wahlgren and Niklas Hjulström. Filming will take place in Gothenburg, in a stand-in setting for the interiors of Stockholm’s Rosenblad government building.
