The Biografilm Festival, celebrating its 10^th edition, will be running from June 6-16 in Bologna, with one new element: Biografilm Europa. The new festival section will be dedicated to biographies and life stories. Directed by Andrea Romeo (read the interview), the section will present the best of biopic productions from the 28 countries of the European Union, highlighting the strategic importance of biographical productions. No longer just documentaries then: the festival will open itself to quality and fiction biopics. “Biographical films are one of the most successful forms of cinema and television at the moment, between narration and vocational divulging.”

The new section will include a film opening the festival, Jimi - All Is by My Side [+see also:

film profile] by John Ridley (UK/Ireland), which tells the story of a crucial year in the life Jimi Hendrix, from his meeting with friend and patron Linda Keith up until the day before the Monterey exhibition which revealed him to the world (featuring André 3000); and closing film Frank [+see also:

film profile] by Irishman Lenny Abrahamson, which is a comedy with Michael Fassbender, inspired by the character of Frank Sidebottom, British comedian and musician Chris Sievey’s alter ego, who used to hide behind a gigantic mask on stage.

The complete Biografilm Festival 2014 programme will be announced in May in Rome.
