Karmitz is patron

The 42nd edition of International Critics' Week, a prestigious sidebar event at the Cannes Film Festival (14-25 May) has chosen its "patron". The successor to Bernardo Bertolucci, Ken Loach and Barbet Schreoder is the French president and founder of MK2, Marin Karmitz.
The Romanian-born Karmitz began his career in films as Jean-Luc Godard and Agnès Varda's assistant director. His second feature, Camarades, was presented at Critics' Week in 1970 and will be screened again this year, on 18 May, when the event's "patron" traditionally meets with the young directors taking part at the Miramare Space.

Karmitz founded MK2 in 1967 and since then, the company has grown and become one of France's leading producers and distributors. To date, MK2 have produced over 80 films and distributed over 250.
Marin Karmitz is a popular and successful figure in Cannes, especially since MK2 won the Palme d'Or for Ylmaz Guney's Yol. In 2001, MK2 presented La pianiste [+see also:
