17/04/2014 - Having already established a showcase in Moscow, the WFF’s industry section presents Eastern European cinema in Beijing for the first time

After having screened a package of Chinese films in last year’s programme, Warsaw’s CentEast Market – the industry section of the Warsaw Film Festival – will for the first time participate in the Beijing Film Market (17-19 April) prior to the fourth Beijing International Film Festival (20-27 April).

CentEast director Anna Korcz will present the package of ten Eastern European works in progress – including Polish directors Krzysztof Zanussi’s Foreign Body and Wojciech Smarzowski’s The Mighty Angel [+see also:

film profile], and Czech director Jan Hrebejk’s The Icing, which unspooled last autumn in Warsaw and later in Moscow.

Two films from the Warsaw Festival’s international competition – Georgian director Zaza Urushadze’s Tangerines [+see also:

film profile], which won for Best Director, adding the Audience Award, and Russian director Alexander Veledinsky’s The Geographer Drank His Globe Away – will also be on show. 

From stand C04 in the Beijing Market, held at the China Millennium Monument, CentEast will also be promoting its partners – the Helsinki, Odessa, Prague, Sofia, Tallinn, Transilvania, Zadar, and Warsaw festivals and markets – as well as Film Commission Poland and the Mazovia Warsaw Film Commission.

Organised since 2005, and with more than 240 Polish and international film professionals present last year, Warsaw’s CentEast added a showcase in Moscow in 2009, as part of Russian outfit TVINDIE Film Production’s Project for Tomorrow. This year’s Warsaw Film Festival – the 30^th edition – will take place from 10-19 October.
