, which bears a striking resemblance to his debut feature, he has matched this by organising, in cooperation with exhibitors, producers and distributors, an immense free preview screening in over 100 cinemas next Tuesday 29 April (which happens to coincide with the Champions League match between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, no less).

The day before, Monday 28 April, the film’s official website will divulge the list of cinemas that will be taking part in the event. Audiences will be able to collect their tickets at box offices on Tuesday, subject to available seating.

As the producer pointed out in a press release, this initiative, which is totally unprecedented in the domain of Spanish film distribution, is the result of a “determination to find new ways of making his new film more accessible to audiences”.

León declared, “It hasn’t been easy to get all the interested parties to agree, but I think it’s been worth it. I’m very grateful to Telecinco Cinema, A Contracorriente and all of the cinemas that are taking part in this promotional event. We have all joined forces in pursuit of a common goal: to fill the movie theatres.”

Carmina y amén is an Andy Joke and Telecinco Cinema production, with the participation of Mediaset España and CANAL+, and will be distributed by A Contracorriente Films. Its cast is headed up by Carmina Barrios and María León (the director’s mother and sister, respectively), and also includes Paco Casaus and Yolanda Ramos. The film tells the story of how, following the sudden death of her husband, Carmina convinces her daughter to wait two days before reporting his demise – that way, they will be able to collect a bonus that he had been expecting.
