- Production houses Forma Animada and Pizzel Studios to finance animation feature film Alfred & Anna Save the Music, which was born with an international public in mind

Love for music reaches an international market

Animation cinema continues to be one of the cardinals of internationalisation of Spanish audiovisual production. Successful examples include cinema mega-productions Planet 51 [+see also:

, which will be followed by future releases like Mortadelo y Filemón contra Jimmy el Cachondo (article) and Alfred & Anna Save the Music, which – especially in the case of the second one – are destined for an international public.

Alfred & Anna Save the Music, which will be directed by Juanma Suárez and produced by Forma Animada, Pizzel Studios and Melian Music, is based on the short Alfred & Anna, which in 2013 was a finalist for a Goya as best animation short and among the pre-selected for the Academy Awards. According to Enrique F Guzmán, the executive director of Forma Animada, “it will be a film for the international public, on good and evil, on generosity and ambition, on overcoming oneself, on respect and tolerance, on love and culture, love and music.”

The difficulties of animation, especially its elevated cost and the long process of realisation, are the flip side of its ability to overcome borders and distribution platforms. According to what the production said, it is “almost impossible to compensate for the risk and the potential” of projects like these in the Spanish market alone.

Music will be this film’s main character, which will feature the work of Roque Baños as composer and associate producer, as well as Sony Music Spain as associate collaborator for musical production.

In mid-April, Guzmán and Suárez moved to Los Angeles to bring in strategic support for the future of the film’s production and to prepare for the release and potential Oscar presence of A Lonely Sun Story.

A Lonely Sun Story is a mix of animation images and real ones, which enters into the science-fiction genre. Actors María Valverde and Mario Casas feature.
