film profile], Matthew Warchus’ Pride winning the Queer Palm Award and Gaëlle Denis’ Crocodile the Critics’ Week Canal Plus Award for Best Short film.

Congratulating the winners, Ben Roberts, Director of the British Film Institute Film Fund, said, “Hearty felicitations to Timothy Spall whose richly deserved best actor win for his performance in Mike Leigh’s brilliant Mr. Turner crowns a hat-trick of awards for UK film talent at Cannes this year. It’s so gratifying to see our established film talent like Tim and Mike honoured alongside newcomers such as writer Stephen Beresford, whose first feature Pride, directed by Matthew Warchus, has won the Queer Palm award, and Gaëlle Denis whose film Crocodile scooped the Critics’ Week Canal Plus prize for best short film. It’s been a pleasure and a privilege to work with these extraordinarily talented filmmaking teams and all the UK filmmakers who presented their work in Cannes this year.”
