#Selfie reaches 50,000 admissions in two weeks

Reaching 50,000 admissions should be a reason for celebration for any Romanian producer, as the country's cinemagoers seem reluctant to experience what the local cinema has to offer. But obtaining 50,000 admissions in two weeks proves there really is an audience for local productions, and that reaching a wider public is only a matter of topic and promotion. film profile] was released on 9 May on 38 screens and reached 50,339 admissions in only two weeks.
Produced by MediaPro Entertainment and Zazu Films, Cristina Iacob's first feature attracted a younger generation of cinemagoers with the adventures of three high-school graduates (Olimpia Melinte, Crina Semciuc and Flavia Hojda) who decide to go to the seaside instead of revising for their final exams. Things become even more interesting when they meet three guys willing to offer them a few days to remember. The film's attractiveness is enhanced by a few popular actors from the older generation (Răzvan Vasilescu, Florin Călinescu) and singers loved by the very young.
With €175,000 earned so far, the film's box office is still far from covering the budget, which, according to the producers, amounted to €900,000, with approximately €170,000 coming from the Romanian National Film Center. The fact that the film's popularity decreased by 50% during the second week of screenings may mean that #Selfie will have to make do with the record for fastest film to 50,000 admissions, and possibly the most popular domestic release of 2014, as there is almost no chance that the teen comedy will beat the results of Child's Pose [+see also:
