First development funds for the film selection committee
by Aurore Engelen
- Matthieu Donck, Serge Mirzabekiantz and Sarah Hirtt will benefit from the first development funding packages for feature-length fiction films from the Wallonia-Brussels federation
The film selection committee from the Wallonie-Brussels federation has announced the results of its first 2014 session. With this call, the commission kicked off a development fund for feature-length fiction films, created following various consultations between representatives of industry workers. Funding is capped at €37,500 and is destined for debut and second films, for use by filmmakers and producers as they tackle the delicate development phase between writing and production. Selected candidates are Matthieu Donck (Torpedo [+see also:
film profile]) for East, his first production with FraKas Productions; Le Cœur Noir des Forêts by Serge Mirzabekiantz, his first feature length film written together with Patrick Delperdange, which will be produced by Hélicotronc; and Make It Better by Sarah Hirtt, whose short, En attendant le dégel, won the Cinéfondation award last year in Cannes. His film will be produced by Artemis.
Production funding is to go to Philippe Van Leeuw presenting his second feature length film, InSyriated. After tackling the Rwandan genocide in Le Jour où Dieu est parti en voyage [+see also:
film profile], he is now turning to the Syrian conflict with huis clos, which is to take place in an occupied apartment in the heart of Damascus. The film is to be produced by Altitude 100, the new company founded by the Malandrin brothers. Also being supported are new films by Marion Hänsel, En amont du fleuve [+see also:
