("I am dead but I have friends") is the enigmatic programmed title for the new film by the Malandrin brothers. The film follows the steps of four rockers as they reach 50 and bury their best friend and lead singer of their group. For friendship (and perhaps also to prove to themselves that nothing can stop rock), they decide to carry his ashes on a tour of the United States. The night before they depart, a man from the military turns up at their door and reveals he was their friend’s lover. Their American adventure will take an unexpected turn.

, both about dysfunctional families on the border of construction or explosion, Stéphane and Guillaume Malandrin have substituted family for a circle of friends, asking themselves what happens to trusted friendship after death. Just like in their past films, the universe they paint is a little eccentric and surreal. The cast is good: a rare (perhaps too rare) Lyes Salem, also director of upcoming L’Oranais, an unmissable Bouli Lanners (also director of upcoming fourth film, Les Premiers et les Derniers) and Wim Willaert, discovered by the francophone public in When the Sea Rises by Yolande Moreau and Gilles Porte.

The Malandrin brothers are to be produced for the first time by Versus, who will guide the film in co-production with TS Productions in France. Je suis mort mais j’ai des amis received the support of CCA, VAF, MEDIA and the francophone fund for cinema development. Filming, which started on May 26 in Belgium, will come to an end on July 10 in Canada. The film will be sold across the world by Be For Films, a new sales company created in Belgium by Pamela Leu (formerly of Films Distribution), and distributed in Belgium by O’Brother and in France by Happiness Distribution.
