Sustainability is more relevant than ever
- At the third Deauville Green Awards, industry experts will talk about measures that can limit the carbon footprint of a film production
Documentaries, TV programmes, corporate films and public-awareness campaigns that deal with subjects such as climate change, renewable energies, green economics and sustainable consumption will be shown in three competitions at the third Deauville Green Awards - International Festival from 17-19 June in Deauville, France.
For this edition, Germany has been chosen as the inaugural country of honour. “We have decided to recognise a country committed to solving environmental issues,” underlined Jean-Charles Pentecouteau, the director of the festival.
“The decision to sponsor a festival dedicated to a subject as important as the environment was very easy,” said Fried Nielsen, Minister-Counsellor for Cultural Affairs at the German Embassy. “It’s a subject that has concerned Germany for a long time and is today more relevant than ever.”
In addition to the German Embassy, the Franco-German Chamber of Commerce and the Goethe-Institut in Paris have partnered with the Deauville Green Awards. “A collection of German documentary and corporate films on the topic of environment and ecology will also be presented in association with the German film archive,” said George Pessis, associate director of the event. “Furthermore, the festival will show the highlights from its German counterpart, the Green Screen Festival.”
The event also provides several round-table discussions on film and sustainability. Experts from European organisations such as Ecoprod, the Green Film Initiative and the Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein, which issues the Green Shooting Card, will talk about measures that can limit the carbon footprint of a film production.
