After seven straight months of increases, attendance levels in French movie theatres seemed to come to a standstill in June, standing at -16.5% (11.52 million admissions) compared to the same month in 2013, a fall attributed to events such as the football World Cup, which undoubtedly pulled a certain number of viewers away from the cinemas in favour of the small screen. However, this has not prevented the total figure for the first half of the year from boasting an 11.4% increase compared to last year, with 106.62 million admissions taken.
