Rome 2014: the audience to decide the awards
by Vittoria Scarpa
- Big changes at the next Rome Film Festival directed by Marco Müller. No jury, a simpler structure, renovated sections and more focus on emerging cinema
At the next edition of the Rome Film Festival, the audience will be awarding the prizes, and not the jury. This is the fantastic new feature of the festival directed by Marco Müller, the ninth edition will take place from 16 to 25 October 2014 at the Parco della Musica auditorium: viewers will determine the awards for all genres of film on the programme based on their preferences after the show.
The 2014 Festival will, in addition have a simpler structure, with renovated sections and a total of about 40 feature films: Cinema d’Oggi will host auteur films both new and well-known, Gala will present a selection of “popular but original” movies from the new season, Mondo Genere will host works from diverse cinema genres, while Prospettive Italia focus on national fiction and documentary films.
To highlight the added focus on emerging cinema, the TAODUE Golden Camera Prize will also be awarded to the best debut or second film, which will be chosen – in this case – by a specific jury between the different festival sections.
Finally, from 17 to 21 October, the Rome Film Festival will reopen its doors. Some of the market events of The Business Street being developed are: a Focus on Brazil and Argentina, the third edition of China Day, and the Remake it! project, reserved for remakes of blockbuster movies. New Cinema Network, the international projects market, will present a special focus entitled “The Great Beauties”: a selection of projects from foreign directors which will be filmed in Italy, to encourage co-productions with other countries and to promote Italy as an ideal location.
