, the latest, eagerly awaited effort by Luc Besson (read the news). The film will be shown in the striking Piazza Grande, with the French director in attendance to get the party started at the 67th edition of the prestigious Swiss festival.

The Official Programme will not be unveiled until 16 July, but Luc Besson’s presence in the Piazza Grande has already been confirmed. Lucy, an action film with a top-notch cast including Morgan Freeman, Choi Min-Sik and Scarlett Johansson, portrays a young female student who is something of a drifter, who acquires physical and mental superpowers that turn her into an ultra-ruthless warrior. The reason behind these mutations is beyond her control and is related to a mysterious drug mule.

Luc Besson has described Lucy as a film about ”pure intelligence” and the power of the mind. The French filmmaker wants to depict what could potentially happen if human beings decided to use the entirety of their brainpower.

Lucy is produced by EuropaCorp and distributed by Universal Pictures International.
