- The German regional fund is backing a comedy that crawls under Germans’ beds, the adaptation of a well-known illustrated children’s book, and the new films by Schweighöfer, Steinbichler and Groos

FFF Bavaria: €3.55 million for seven features

The FFF Bayern has granted a total of €5.5 million (in aid of film production, TV production, screenplay development, debut feature direction and so on) to 30 projects, including €3.55 million for seven upcoming feature films.

The title that received the lion’s share, with €800,000, is the comedy Unter deutschen Betten by Mira Thiel, a director who graduated from the DffB in Berlin, and who already has an impressive number of documentaries and music videos under her belt. The screenplay for the film, written by the director herself together with Judith Bonesky and Andrea Wilson, is an adaptation of the memoirs of a cleaning lady, published by Justyna Polanska (Holger Schlageter’s pen name) under the same title, which means “under German beds”. Production is being handled by the Munich-based outfit Construction Filmproduktion.

The animator Ute von Münchow-Pohl (who directed Raven the Little Rascal [+see also:

in 2012, among other titles) and the company Virgins Lands have been awarded €600,000 to make an adaptation of the famous children’s book Die Häschenschule, written by Albert Sixtus and illustrated by Fritz Koch-Gotha.

Meanwhile, the well-known and prolific actor and director Matthias Schweighöfer is preparing the comedy The Manny [+see also:

, which revolves around an overwhelmed father who pesters a well-trained house husband. The two leading roles will be played by Schweighöfer himself and Milan Peschel. The movie is produced by Pantaleon Film, which received €350,000 from the Bavarian fund. Hans Steinbichler (Winter Journey [+see also:

The FFF Bayern has also set aside €700,000 for Rico, Oskar und das Herzgebreche, Wolfgang Groos’s adaptation of the second instalment of the children’s trilogy by Andreas Steinhöfel, produced by Lieblingsfilm (the first, directed by Neele Leana Vollmar, has already garnered several awards and has just hit French screens via Fox), and €450,000 for the international action film Point Break by Kurt Wimmer, produced in Potsdam by Fünfundzwanzigste Babelsberg Film.

Lastly, Gravitation - Das Geheimnis von Raum und Zeit, by Peter Popp, has been granted €250,000. This Softmachine Immersive Productions title is a 3D “edutainment” project that will propel a 13-year-old-boy, a robot and the viewer through time and space, in accordance with Einstein’s theories.
