Venice Film Festival’s Web Theatre returns for expanded online screenings

- The third edition of the Biennale’s Sala Web is to stream selected Orizzonti & Biennale College titles

Venice Film Festival’s Web Theatre returns for expanded online screenings

Following two successful years of incorporating an online screening experience into the regular programming of the Venice Film Festival, the Biennale has announced that its innovative Web Theatre initiative - known as Sala Web - will return this year for the 71st edition of the Mostra. Sala Web will once again serve as a parallel online showcase for films officially selected in the Orizzonti and Biennale College sidebars. Sala Web is the “virtual” screening room that takes the Venice Film Festival beyond the confines of its traditional venues on the Lido and makes some of the Mostra’s most groundbreaking programming directly accessible to audiences worldwide.

Festival Director Alberto Barbera commented: “By expanding the viewing window for films on Sala Web this year, we hope to make the Web Theatre an ever more flexible and valuable service for anyone interested in following the Mostra in 2014. Sala Web provides this special opportunity for audiences around the world to ‘connect’ directly with the Venice Film Festival and discover the voices and films representing some of the most inventive and expressive aesthetic trends in world cinema today, from established filmmakers as well as emerging talents.”

Sala Web will screen a selection of titles from the festival’s Orizzonti and Biennale College – Cinema sections. The 2013 Orizzonti selection featured such breakout titles as Palo Alto by Gia Coppola, The Sacrament by Ti West, Fish & Cat by Shahram Mokri, We Are the Best [+see also:
