The Locarno International Film Festival launches the pilot project “Industry Academy”
by Muriel Del Don
- “Industry Academy” is the new pilot project developed by the Locarno International Film Festival born from the shared effort of Industry Office and the Locarno Summer Academy
Industry Academy is an educational and multidisciplinary programme developed by the Locarno International Film Festival. During five days (8-12 August) a group of nine young European professionals who are active in the field of distribution, sales and marketing will have the opportunity to meet and interact with expert industry professionals (mentors) in an environment of mutual exchange. A unique opportunity offered to nine young people from six different countries: Belgium (Damien Le Délézir of Europa International and Vanessa Jarlot of O’Brother), Denmark (Peter Ahlén of Trust Nordisk), France (Océane Portal of Under the Milky Way), Spain (Espinar Gabriel Sanz of The Film Agency), Switzerland (Meryl Moser of Cinerive SA, Frédérick Herren of Cinepel SA and Yves Blösche of Filmcoopi) and United Kingdom (Oliver Charles of Peccadillo Pictures).
The goal of the new pilot project (mini laboratory) is to fill the void left by European cinema schools, which usually don’t offer a genuine academic route dedicated to film production. Industry Academy strives to be a brief but decisive international crossroads between industry professionals.
Over the five days participants will deal with concrete cases and the emphasis will placed on debate (small groups) and analysis of the present situation of the film industry: different approaches to problems concerning sales and distribution, not to forget marketing strategies.
Confirmed mentors are: Susan Wendt of Turst Nordisk, Nicholas Kaiser of Memento Films International, Anne Delseth of the Directors’ Fortnight, Lana Kneedler of AFI Fest, Michel de Schaetzen of O’Brother, Pierre-Alexandre Labelle of Under the Milky Way, Yves Moser of Cinerive SA and Mary Nazari of Pioner Cinema.
