Australia’s Rachel Griffiths, who won an Oscar nomination for Hilary and Jackie, will head the cast for Mammal [+see also:

, to be directed by Rebecca Daly, whose debut feature The Other Side of Sleep premiered at the Cannes Film Festival Directors Fortnight. The film is an unusual love story between a woman who has lost her son in tragic circumstances and a young homeless. Playing opposite Griffiths will be Irish actor Barry Keoghan (’71 [+see also:

collaborator Glenn Montgomery, Macdara Kelleher is producing the film for Fastnet Films with co-producers Calach Films and Les Films Fauves in Luxembourg and Rinkel Film in The Netherlands. Funding is by the Irish Film Board, Luxembourg Film Fund, BAI, TV3, the Dutch Film Fund and the Dutch Production incentive. Wildcard Distribution will release the film in Ireland with Cinéart distributing the film in Benelux countries and Berlin based Picture Tree International handling world sales.

The film which will shoot in Dublin and Luxembourg in October was selected as part of the first Berlinale Residency, a programme organised by the Berlin International Film Festival to support writer/directors develop their new projects.  

Kelleher said, “Mammal is a powerful moving story and we are excited to be working Rebecca again and with the incredible cast of Rachel Griffiths and Barry Keoghan.”
