Written by the director and Sophie Hiet with the collaboration of Vincent Mariette, the screenplay was inspired by Martin Eden from Jack London and The House of Mirth from Edith Wharton. The plot centres on Alice, 20 years old, living in Bayeux, in Normandy. She works in the woollen industry, creating dyes and making clothes. She doesn’t know what to do with this innate talent of hers, until she meets Agnès, a rich Parisian who helps her to get into a prestigious school of applied arts. Alice leaves everything behind to go live in Paris. There she meets Antoine, Agnès’ son. An intense love affair develops between them. Antoine appreciates Alice’s sincerity and innocence, traits that allow him an escape from the bourgeois milieu that he rejects. Alice, thanks to Antoine, gets an insider’s view into a world that fascinates her: "high society". She is offered culture and she gives herself over entirely. At the risk of getting lost...

Produced by Pyramide, High Society was co-produced by France 3 Cinéma, pre-bought by Canal+ and Ciné+, and backed by Indéfilms. Photography direction was managed by Céline Bozon.
