The film – based on Dutch author Willem Frederik Herman’s 1966 bestseller – is staged as a Dutch-Norwegian co-production, backed by Dutch producer Hanneke NiensKeyFilm with Norwegian director Aage Aaberge’s Neofilm, in collaboration with the Norwegian regional film centre, Filmcamp Norge, Nordisk Film, TrustNordisk International Sales, with support from the Netherlands Film Fund Cobo, the Norwegian Film Institute and Filmcamp.

), Thorbjørn Harr and Anders Baasmo Christiansen in leading roles, Beyond Sleep is described as “a survival quest by a young geologist searching for a stone from Heaven,” following Dutch geologist Alfred Issendorf (played by Reinout Scholten van Aschat) travelling to northern Finnmark with a group of Norwegians.

Sverre Hagen is the Norwegian student, who guides the group through the harsh Norwegian wild, where they will explore a theory by Issendorf’s professor-father that craters in the northern Norwegian landscape were created by meteors. "Filming Beyond Sleep has been a dream for me - I am happy and proud that Herman’s heirs have trusted me with this masterpiece,” said Koole. Nordisk Film Distribusjon has scheduled the Norwegian release for next spring.
