Sarajevo opens its Industry Terrace

While the industry activities of the 20th Sarajevo Film Festival (16-23 August) started yesterday with DOCU Rough Cut Boutique – an SFF/Balkan Documentary Center initiative that offers five projects from the region tailor-made coaching, expert advice and access to decision-makers who can have a crucial influence on moving the projects forward in their final stage – the Industry Terrace has kicked off its four-day programme today.

The Industry Terrace, which was a pilot project last year, is designed to enhance circulation and negotiations on the rights and licences of the films presented at the festival, as well as other catalogue titles, by bringing together more than 100 professionals, from sales and distribution companies to TV and VoD buyers, theatrical exhibitors, and service and rental offering companies.

Sarajevo FF’s industry manager, Ena Đozo, has underlined that “our platform offers a more relaxed schedule compared to major international markets”. The Terrace will host “pre-arranged meetings among the companies being presented” according to their specific needs. “Not everyone in our film industry can travel to Cannes or Berlin. We hereby intend to strenghten the regional market and give all participants a place to meet.” These meetings include those from the new Avant Premiere initiative (see news). “We discussed the idea with distributors, and they thought it was great. Regional films, especially lower-budget productions, are very difficult to launch in the region.”

The industry activities also include Work in Progress (see news), the Regional Forum (see news), an umbrella platform for short films called Minimarket, the 12th edition of Cinelink (see news), and a focus on the UK as this year’s Cinelink Partner Country.
