Craig Roberts, star of Submarine [+see also:
film profile], has commenced a three-week shoot at Caerphilly County, Wales, on his feature directorial debut Just Jim [+see also:
film profile]. Roberts plays the title role opposite Emile Hirsch (Lone Survivor). The film is the story of Jim, a teenage loser whose life is turned inside out by the appearance of an enigmatic, handsome American neighbour. Aneirin Hughes (Y Syrcas), Nia Roberts (The Facility), Richard Harrington (Under Milk Wood) and Matthew Aubrey (The Gospel of Us) also star.
The film is funded by Ffilm Cymru Wales. Adrian Bate and Pip Broughton of Vox Pictures are producing. Soda Pictures will release in the UK and Ireland in 2015. Just Jim was selected as one of three finalists of Ffilm Cymru Wales’ Cinematic, a scheme developed in partnership with the British Film Institute Film Fund, BBC Films, Creative Skillset, S4C, and Soda Pictures to support emerging filmmaking talent from Wales.
Roberts won the BAFTA Cymru Award for Best Actor and the London Critics’ Circle Film Award for Young British Performer of the Year for Submarine. His recent acting credits include Hollywood films Bad Neighbours and 22 Jump Street and the upcoming British film Kill Your Friends.
