Showcase for Ciné-Sud Promotion at Venice and Toronto
Flapping in the Middle of Nowhere by Nguyen Hoang Diep

A truly go-getting organisation when it comes to international co-productions, French production outfit Ciné-Sud Promotion, headed by Thierry Lenouvel (also the co-director of Final Cut in Venice and the man in charge of the Screenplay Development Fund at the Amiens International Film Festival), will unveil Flapping in the Middle of Nowhere, by Vietnamese director Nguyen Hoang Diep, at the Critics’ Week of the Venice Film Festival on Tuesday 2 September. Sold by Premium Films and co-produced with Vietnam, Germany and Norway, this feature debut will then travel to Toronto, featuring in its Discovery section, before continuing to the Busan International Film Festival in October.

Ciné-Sud Promotion will be counting on another film at Toronto: the Franco-Greek co-production Red Rose by Iranian filmmaker Sepideh Farsi, which will have its world premiere in the Contemporary World Cinema programme. Sales are being handled by Urban Distribution International

Standing out on the well-stocked shelves of Ciné-Sud Promotion’s co-productions with America is Los ausentes by Nicolas Pereda, made in conjunction with Mexico and Spain, screened at Locarno and selected at Busan. Thierry Lenouvel’s Colombian focus is also intensifying with Mateo by Maria Gamboa, which will be having its French premiere at the Biarritz Latin American Film Festival (international sales by Alpha Violet); Tierra en la lengua by Ruben Mendoza, which will be presented in competition at the Amiens International Film Festival (sales by Diafragma and Ciné-Sud); El abrazo de la serpiente by Ciro Guerra, which is currently being filmed; La terre et l'ombre [+see also:
