Four seasoned Danish producers – Vibeke Windeløv, Ole Søndberg, Stinna Lassen and Anni Fernandez – have today opened Good Company Films, a new production shingle in Copenhagen, to “continue strengthening the position of tremendous success that Scandinavian films have enjoyed during recent years”.

“For us, this means working closely with the creatives, investing in new talent and focusing on developing first-class content for future distribution platforms,” they said in a statement.

Their first projects include a film from Danish author Lene Kaaberbøl’s W.I.T.C.H. series (2003-2005); a new feature by Danish director Milad Alami, one of the eight filmmakers behind the 60-minute Nordic Factory drama in the Directors’ Fortnight at this year’s Cannes; and a political mini-series based on real-life events.

Fernandez, who is managing director of the company, comes from her position as CEO of Sweden’s Yellow Bird; her credits include the Millennium trilogy and TV series, the Annika Bengtzon: Crime Reporter franchise; and the Wallander thrillers. She will also be producing.

Lassen, the other producer, has for the last three years worked with Windeløv in their Windelov-Lassen set-up, and has just finished eight episodes of The Team, the international TV series by Danish authors Peter Thorsboe and Mai Brostrøm with Kathrine Windfeld as conceptual director, which Danish and European pubcasters will air from next spring.

Windeløv has joined as executive producer. She was recently appointed executive director of Copenhagen’s Betty Nansen Theatre and has produced more than 35 features for, among others, Danish directors Lars von Trier (from 1996’s Breaking the Waves to The Boss of It All [+see also:

in 2006) and Susanne Bier (most recently 2013’s Love Is All You Need [+see also:

, which won the European Film Award).

Also executive producer with Good Company Films, Søndberg was a co-founder of Yellow Bird, when in 2003 he set up the company with Swedish author Henning Mankell to bring his Wallander books to the screen. At Yellow Bird, he worked with Fernandez on the Millennium and Annika Bengtzon franchises; he also executive-produced the 1997-2002 Beck TV series, from Sjöwall and Wahlöö’s novels.
