Screenwriters from around the world prepare to head to Warsaw
- Andrew Davies and Hagai Levi are toplining the third World Conference of Screenwriters, which is set to unspool on 1 and 2 October
After Athens in 2009 and Barcelona in 2012, it is now Warsaw that will play host to the third World Conference of Screenwriters. Instigated with the principal aim of constructing a coherent and shared approach in an already globalised audiovisual industry, the event will gather together screenwriters from every corner of the globe and will focus on their work in an international context, for markets that differ in terms of their specific legal and economic characteristics.
On the menu for this edition, which will take place on 1 and 2 October, are talks and workshops that will be specifically aimed at the topic of writing for television. Featuring among the subjects that will be dissected at the event are copyrights, how to negotiate with TV channels and producers, the role of the screenwriter in independent cinema, the development of new genres for both the big and the small screen, the Scandinavian phenomenon, and writing for young audiences.
An impressive number of well-known guests are expected to attend the conference, including the writers of series that have been successful the world over. Toplining this list are the brilliant British writer Andrew Davies (screenwriter for House of Cards and the two Bridget Jones films, among others) and Israel’s outstanding Hagai Levi (In Treatment). Several Polish professionals will also be taking part, including director Andrzej Wajda, Agnieszka Odorowicz (head of the Polish Film Institute/PISF) and Jacek Bromski, manager of the Polish Filmmakers Association, which organises the event in cooperation with FSE and IAWG, with support from the PISF, the Capital City of Warsaw, Telewizja Polska, ZAiKS Authors’ Association, ZAPA (the Union of Audiovisual Authors and Producers) and the Creative Europe Desk Poland.
