After winning the Best Documentary Award at the most recent edition of the Lëtzebuerger Filmpräis (see the news), the Grand Duchy's national film awards, in March, Never Die Young will be released in Luxembourg theatres today.

The movie, directed by Pol Cruchten, whose earlier features include the children's film Little Secrets [+see also:

and the 1992 Cannes Un Certain Regard entry Hochzaeitsnuecht, will also represent the country in the foreign-language category at next year's Oscars.

A committee of seven people, drawn from the various sectors of the audiovisual industry in the Grand Duchy, selected the film earlier this year. If nominated, it would be the first nomination for the country in the foreign-language feature category, though it did win its first Oscar in the animated short category just last year for Mr Hublot.

Never Die Young recounts the tumultuous life of a Luxembourg boy from the town of Pétange, who is packed off to boarding school in Arlon, Belgium, in the 1960s and who, upon returning to Luxembourg as an adult, becomes a heroin addict. He then finds his life transformed when something goes badly wrong.

The entire film consists of a voice-over that complements silent re-enactments and shots, and was produced by Cruchten's own company, Red Lion.
