The Business Street and New Cinema Network return

With registration still open, international attendance (among buyers, world sales agents and producers) at the ninth edition of The Business Street has already observed a record increase of +25% with a growing average of 750 accredited industries. The 2014 data – although not yet complete – also confirms the interest and registration of new distributors and producers from about 50 countries.

The Rome International Film Market, organized by Massimo Saidel with Francesca Palleschi and Markus Duffner, will take place during the first part of the Festival, from 17 to 21 October, in the historic Hotel Bernini Bristol Hotel which will also host, for the second consecutive year, the co-production project market, New Cinema Network.

The Market screenings will take place in the Barberini multiplex. The Digital Video Library (1st floor of Hotel Bernini Bristol) will offer on-demand viewings of films selected in the Festival and of those shown at the Market, as well as a selection of high potential ‘Remakes’ and works selected at the NCN. The traditional round of sector-oriented debates, events and conferences will be held at the Casa del Cinema.

The Business Street will host a Focus Industry paying particular attention to the motion-picture industry in Argentina and in Brazil. And following the success in 2013, dialogue with China will continue: China Day atto secondo, one of the “China Project” activities, brings to Rome a qualified delegation of Chinese producers, content providers and investors. China Day will be celebrated by a day of reconciliation with events and surveys on 18 co-production projects between Italy and China.

New to this ninth edition is the partnership with Ass.For.SEO on the first edition of Italian Film Boutique by Movie UP – Roma/Lazio Cinema Days for International Buyers. Always a strategic platform for launching new films commercially and for distributing Italian cinema abroad, The Business Street is the ideal location to host screenings specifically for Italian cinema most recently opened exclusively to international buyers.

Introduced for the first time in 2013, the Remake it! project has been welcomed with interest and satisfaction by market participants. In the context of the Rome Market it seemed natural to focus attention on a growing section of the market: the sale of remakes, stories with strong appeal, already well-established in their country of origin but capable of communicating with the world audience.

Things will kick off on Friday 17 October at the Casa del Cinema with the traditional European Day: an opportunity to present, with data to hand, the first year’s performance under Creative Europe’s new audiovisual support schemes (2014-2020). The European Info Day will focus on information to promote development with a session on marketing and distribution.

The new marketing strategies and Theatrical output models will also be key topics in the conference organized by The Business Street in collaboration with Europa Distribution (Association of European Distributors) which will take place on Saturday 18 October at the Casa del Cinema. For the first time this year, the pan-European association Europa Distribution has selected Rome for its in-camera general assembly.
