Taranto hosts the 5th Euro Mediterranean Co-production Forum

Today in Taranto the fifth edition of the Euro Mediterranean Co-production Forum opens. Promoted by the Apulia Film Commission Foundation in collaboration with the Apulia Region, and scheduled for three days, up until 11 October.

The event, carried out with the support of Eurimages and the Municipality of Taranto and with the collaboration of ACE, Sofia Meetings and FOCAL, aims to support developing film projects (fiction features, documentaries, TV series), that have a narrative link Europe or to the Mediterranean and that have at least 30% of their budget guaranteed.

20 projects participating this year– selected by the director of the Alberto La Monica Forum – which will be presented in Taranto by the respective producers; 154 registrations for cinema projects from all over the world, and 48 nationalities of origin for the production companies that requested to participate, including Tunisia, United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal, Russia, Serbia, Ukraine, Czech Republic and Italy. The range of cinema genres sees a massive presence of drama and comedy, as well as projects with plots linked to fantasy (fantasy, sci-fi and horror) and to pulp and suspense (noir, crime, action and thriller). The documentaries are instead characterized, in almost all cases, by a very powerful social and civil vocation. The budget range for the various projects is quite extensive: 44 low-budget projects (up to €500,000) and 110 high-budget projects (from €500,000 up to €10,000,000).

New to this year’s Forum are scheduled talks about new security instruments to support co-production (such as completion bonds and collecting accounts) and about new channels that can be used for VOD and SVOD, with a comparison between both North American and European systems and a focus on new realities in Italy.

The event is co-financed by the Apulia European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) 2007-2013. The Forum also hosts an information desk for Creative Europe Desk Italy Media, Bari.
