as Portugal’s entry for the upcoming Goya Awards, in the Best Ibero-American Film category.

The announcement comes just two weeks after the opening of the Maria do Céu Guerra-starring drama in Portuguese cinemas (see the news). During that short period, with almost 50,000 tickets sold, Os Gatos Não Têm Vertigens has managed to rank third in the list of the most-seen local features of 2014.

For now, Os Gatos Não Têm Vertigens – an urban tale of elderly loneliness and intergenerational solidarity – is surpassed only by João Botelho's The Maias – Story of a Portuguese Family [+see also:

(the most successful Portuguese film of the year so far, with nearly 75,000 tickets sold) and by Joaquim Leitão’s female-driven Sei Lá [+see also:

, which has enticed almost 62,000 viewers. The theatrical distribution of the three features has been handled by NOS Lusomundo Audiovisuais.

The final nominees for the 29th edition of the Goyas will be announced early next year. The awards ceremony will take place in Madrid on 8 February 2015.
