Gudnason, who was awarded a Guldbagge – the Swedish national film prize – for his role in Danish director Per Fly’s feature (which collected a total of four Guldbagges and the City of Gothenburg Award), and Franz Körlof, who most recently performed in the Blue Eyes television series, will play Arvid, a journalist, and Lydia, an artist’s daughter, who meet on a beautiful evening in the Stockholm archipelago and fall in love.

August, who has most recently been the conceptual director of Danish pubcaster DR’s latest export TV series, The Legacy, will try her hand at the Swedish classic from a script by Danish director Lone Scherfig, who, after her Dogme debut – Italian for Beginners (2000) – has mainly made English-language features, incuding the three times Oscar-nominated An Education [+see also:

(2010), which won three Guldbagges.

Produced by Patrik Andersson and Frida Bargo for B-Reel, with Film i Väst, Swedish pubcaster SVT, Norway’s Motlys and Denmark’s Nimbus Film, The Serious Game has been filmed twice before for the big screen: in 1945 by Swedish director Rune Carlsten and in 1977 by Norwegian filmmaker Anja Breien (Games of Love and Loneliness). The August-Scherfig interpretation has been scheduled for a spring 2016 release through Nordisk Film.
