The international jury of the 65th Berlin Film Festival (5-15 February) will be chaired by US director, screenwriter and producer Darren Aronofsky

After his feature debut, Pi (1998), Aronofsky offered audiences the cult film Requiem for a Dream (presented at Cannes in 2000), The Wrestler (winner of the Golden Lion at Venice in 2008), Black Swan (which won awards at the Oscars and the Golden Globes in 2011) and, most recently, Noah.

The American filmmaker, who is delighted to be making a grand entrance in Berlin (he has never been in competition there), remarked: “At the Berlinale, the cinema is always exciting and fascinating. I am looking forward to watching the latest from the greatest in one of the great cities on the planet.”

Dieter Kosslick, the renowned director of the German gathering, believes that Darren Aronofsky is one of the most outstanding figures in contemporary auteur cinema, as “he consistently sounds out cinematic language and its aesthetic possibilities”.
