Written by the director, the story kicks off in 1923. Georges Laffont, a WW1 hero, has fled his wartime memories by going to Africa, where he is living a life full of adventure. But his journey leads him into a dead end, and so he returns to France to meet up with his brother Marcel, a deaf and dumb war invalid, at his mother’s house. In Europe, life has been going on without him, with the post-war generation attempting to forget all the trauma of the conflict. Georges tries to find his place, thanks to Hélène, a sign-language teacher with whom he strikes up a turbulent relationship, and thanks to his family, whose wounds he attempts to heal – although it is now a little late for that.

Produced by Christophe Mazodier for Polaris Films Production & Finance, Cessez-le-feu is co-produced by France 2 Cinéma and the Belgian outfits Umedia and Fontana. Having been pre-purchased by Canal+ and Ciné+, the feature is also being backed by the Manon, Cinémage and Cofinova Soficas. The shoot will take place in Africa (in Burkina Faso and Senegal in December) and in France (from January until early February, and then again at the end of May). Distribution in France will be handled by Le Pacte and international sales by Indie Sales
