Filmmaker Michał Rosa is returning to one of his favourite themes (What Sun Has Seen and Scratch), once again plumping for the personal stories of the inhabitants of Silesia, a region where the question of national identity is still, and always has been, a highly complex issue. The film, entitled Szczęście świata (lit. “The Joy of the Universe”) is currently being shot, with a release scheduled for autumn 2015.

The story, written by the director (who was born in Silesia), revolves around a number of people who live in a block of flats in a Silesian city. The plot begins during summer 1939, before continuing to unfold after the war. One of the main characters is Roza, who is adored by three men: a Silesian, a Pole and a German. Ethnic and cultural diversity is the underlying issue at the heart of the whole story, as the ties between these three nations (where Jewish people also had a considerable presence) were effectively severed during the war.

The cast includes Karolina Gruszka, Agata Kulesza, Tomasz Borkowski, Krzysztof Stroinski, Marcin Perchuc, and the young twins Andrzej and Kamil Tkacz (already well known in the movie world after having appeared in Run Boy Run and Life Feels Good). The DoP is Marcin Koszalka. Produced by Argomedia, Szczęście świata is benefitting from backing from the Silesian Film Fund.
