Adaptation by Michel Leclerc and Baya Kasmi (duo crowned by the 2011 César for Best Original Screenplay) of a novel by English Jonathan Coe, the plot is centred on Mr Sim who is very disinterested and uninteresting. That’s his opinion of himself at least. His wife left him, his job left him and when he travels to the other side of the world to see his father, the latter hasn’t even got the time to lunch with him. That’s when he receives an unexpected proposal: to travel across France selling toothbrushes that are going to "revolutionize oral and dental hygiene". He takes the opportunity to revisit the faces of his childhood, in particular his first love, his daughter and his father and to make astonishing discoveries that will be revealed to him.

Produced by Antoine Rein and Fabrice Goldstein for Karé Productions and by Caroline Adrian for Delante Films, The Terrible Privacy of Mr Sim is co-produced by France 2 Cinéma and Rhônes-Alpes Cinéma. Pre-bought by Canal+ and Ciné+, the feature film is also supported by the Soficas Soficinéma, Aplus Image and Cinémage. Distribution in France will be led by Mars. International sales are guaranteed by SND.
