The 65th Berlin Film Festival (5-15 February) will open with the world-premiere screening of the new feature by Spanish director Isabel Coixet, Nobody Wants the Night, a snow-capped adventure film that will also be in the running for the Golden Bear.

This co-production, which saw Spanish outfits Ariane Garoé, Mediapro, Neo Art and Nadie quiere la noche join forces with French firm Noodles Productions and Bulgaria's One More Movie, is for the most part set in Greenland in 1908. The screenplay, based on a true story and written by Miguel Barros, tells the story of the love that Josephine Peary feels for Robert Peary, the American explorer who was the first to reach the North Pole, and how she follows him across an icy land, putting her own life at risk and crossing paths with another woman, Allaka, who is pregnant by him.

The iconic director of the Berlinale, Dieter Kosslick, declared he was “very pleased that Nobody Wants the Night will open the 2015 Berlinale”. In his eyes, “Isabel Coixet has created an impressive and perceptive portrait of two women in extreme circumstances.” He also revealed that the film will be the first to be screened in Dolby Atmos® at the Berlinale Palast.
